To eat or not to eat…is not the question! Dehydrate, cold soak, purchase pre-made, healthy or junk food, the permutations are endless. it all comes down to taste, weight and nutrition.
I settled on a combination approach: dehydrating fruit and veggies to add to ready made sides as well as individual packets of tuna, chicken, peanut butter supplemented by string cheese and little packets of condiments. Oh yes and instant coffee, a bit of tea and hot chocolate.
My favorite cookbook
Dehydrating and vacuum packing is a great way to increase nutrition while saving on both space and weight. As everyone knows, water is heavy! Removing the water helps to reduce the weight of food. It stands to reason that we all want to decrease weight. Dehydrated food is delicious. I recommend the "bark" recipes in Recipes for Adventure...and check out Chef Glenn's website: https://www.backpackingchef.com/recipes-for-adventure-ebook.html. I had way to much fun vacuum packing the dehydrated food. After a few false starts things went well.
